2008 Study Topic #2 - DEFINE AND DECLARE
By: Dr. Frederick Eikerenkoetter in The Science of Living Study Guide
He is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. Ephesians 3:20
A SCIENCE OF LIVING PRINCIPLE
If you say, “I am beholding God-in me as my answer,” that word goes forth to make the answer appear. If you want the answer, you have to behold the answer. You have to be aware of the answer. You have to speak the answer. When you do this, the answer will unfold.
We trust you plan to continue self interrogation concerning what you are feeding you mind. We’d be interested in hearing from some of you about what you have discovered so far about you from just asking and answering the questions in Study Topic #1.
Now let’s continue our journey of self-discovery with Rev. Ike’s teaching, “Define and Declare,” found in Chapter 2 of his Science of Living Study Guide.
Define and declare because God wants you to have what you want! I know that’s a revelation to some of you. God wants you to have what you want. The text is found in the third Epistle of John, the second verse. There’s power in the Word. This is God preaching through the Apostle John:
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
And now let’s examine the words of Jesus, from the Gospel according to Saint Matthew, sixth chapter and thirty-third verse:
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
I said God wants you to have what you want, as long as it is right, as long as it is good, God wants you to have what you want. I want to tell you to tell yourself something, because if I can get you to believe that God wants you to have what you want, then nothing can stop you from having it.
Now I’m going to teach you how to talk to yourself; I want you to tell yourself this:
Everything good that I want God wants me to have it.
Stop and think about that; whenever there’s some good that you desire think about it in your mind: decide that this is good; that this will hurt no one; and this does not try to take anything from anybody. Make sure this is not unfair to anybody, it is good, and because it is good, God wants me to have it. Everything good that I want God wants me to have it. Every once in a while some people ask me, “Rev. Ike , do you think it’s right for you to have all those Rolls Royce when there are so many poor people in the world?” I say, “They’re making Rolls Royce, somebody’s going to ride in them, and it might as well be me. If you don’t want to ride in one, you don’t have to but don’t bother me because I do. God wants me to have it.” And I want to have it too, and Bless God I’m going to. If I want it and God wants me to have it, nobody’s going to keep me from it. Everything good that I want God wants me to have it.
You don’t have to try to convince God to give you that which is good; God already wants to give you that which is good. “Beloved, I wish above all things that you would” what does God wish for us? That we, “prosper, and be in health, even as your soul prospers.” Every day tell yourself that God wants you to have the good that you desire.
Daily Affirmation #1
God wants me to have the good that I desire.
That’s wonderful. That blesses you and it blesses any one that you tell that to. God wants you to have good health, so say with me God wants me to have good health.
Daily Affirmation #2
God wants me to have good health.
If you want good health, God wants you to have good health. But you know, I’ve discovered—and this may seem strange to some of you—not everybody wants good health. Sadly, not everybody who is sick does wants to be healed. May people use sickness as a way of getting attention and as an escape from facing daily activities? Haven’t you ever heard someone say, “Well, I can’t because of my sickness.”
As a matter of fact, some people wouldn’t have much to talk about if they didn’t have some kind of sickness “Hi Susie, how you doing?” “Well, you know that [name of an ailment] I have is bothering me today.” And that’s the sum total of their conversation. As you continuously talk about something you give it life. But God wants you to have good health. Just as Jesus met the paralyzed man beside the pool and asked him the question, “Wilt thou be made whole?” In other words, do you want to be well? A simple question isn’t it? But the man didn’t give a simple answer; the man went all the way back and said, “Well, you know I’ve been here 38 years.” In other words, don’t bother me, don’t try to talk me out of my sickness, I have had it a long time and I’m not willing to give it up. For some, there’s comfort in their negative conditions and in some cases there’s money. “I’ve been collecting compensation checks so I don’t have to work; I don’t even have to wait on myself all I have to do is lay here and grunt. Do you think I’m going to give this up?”
One of the strangest cases I have ever prayed for was the man in Boston who asked me to pray for God to heal him of asthma and at the same time pray that he would get his disability back. And those were the days when I’d have the sick folks come up in the prayer line, you know, and I’d lay hands on them and this man had such a case of asthma, it looked like every breath would be his last. Sometimes in an attempt to catch a breath he’d fall out on the floor with his legs kicking just like a dying insect. “Oh, Lord! Pray for me preacher.” After he caught his breath, he said, “Now, I want you to pray for me to get my disability back too; they owe me $47,000 back pay and when I get it back I’m going to pay you my tithes.” So I went away and I came back for another service and while I was away, you know, I begin to think about that man and so up he came in the prayer line again, Rev. Ike coughing.
He says, “I want you to pray for me to be healed of this asthma and I want you to be praying for me to get my disability back.” I said, “Wait a minute,” I said, “Brother, the Spirit told me to tell you that you can have your healing or you can have your disability payment? What do you want?” While coughing he said, “I’d rather have the money.” He continued to cough, “When I get that money, I’m going to give you my tithes.” I said, “Well, I’m going to pray for you to get your disability then, but I will not pray for your healing.” I said, “You’d better bring me those tithes.” So I laid my hands on him and I prayed and I said, “Lord, through Jesus give him his disability back.” I said, “You’re going to get your disability back and you’d better bring me tithes.” He was not a poor man, he was wealthy. He did get his disability and he did not bring back his tithes. God bless him.
Be sure that you desire good health, because God wants you to have good health, and it’s not a question of either/or. The Bible says when you seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness that all these things shall be added to you. God does not have to make you sick so you can draw money, you can draw it while you’re well so that you can enjoy it. Everything good that you want God wants you to have it. God wants you to have happiness; God wants you to have Love; God wants you to have success; God wants you to have Prosperity.
Daily Affirmation #3
God wants me to have Success. God wants me to have Prosperity. God does not produce failure. God wants you to have some money.
I’ve had some people say, “Yes, but Rev. Ike, maybe if I had too much, maybe I wouldn’t love the Lord.” You know, I couldn’t understand that. I don’t know about you, but I can love God a lot better, I can serve God a lot better when I have money to meet my need and pay my bills.
My God, I praise the Lord when I’ve got money to meet my needs and to pay my bills. I can sing, “Oh, how I love Jesus because He first loved me.” People have said, “Yes but maybe if I had so much, maybe it would come between me and God.” I really don’t understand that either. Money only corrupts the corruptible—if money corrupts you, you were corrupt in the first place. I get excited when I think about this, that everything good that I want, God wants me to have it. Some people are saying, “Well, Rev. Ike, what does the Gospel have to do with money, what does Jesus have to do with money?” More than you think. There was at least one occasion in the Gospel where Jesus worked a money miracle. You remember the time when the tax collectors came around to collect taxes from Jesus and His Disciples, and they didn’t have any money to pay their taxes. They had been going around holding revival meetings, healing the sick, raising the dead, turning water to wine, making the lame walk, the dumb talk, the deaf hear, and didn’t take up enough money. They didn’t have any money to pay their taxes. I say, Lord that will not happen to me.”
But upon that occasion, Jesus told Peter to go fishing. Jesus told the fisherman, Peter, “Go to the sea and cast in a hook and bring in the first fish and look in his mouth and there’ll you find some money, pay your taxes and pay mine.” He had to work a money miracle, and I tell God wants you to have money.
Daily Affirmation #4
God wants me to have money.
God wants (put your own name here) to have money.
I want to pray a special prayer for you for all of the good that you desire. I’m going to pray for you in my way; I pray a little differently than most. I don’t pray long prayers I pray quick prayers. I pray like a lady in Bakersfield, CA prayed. She said she had raised ten children. She had been poor all of her life and she said one day she got tired of being poor; she needed money so badly until she blurted out a prayer. She said, “God, you’ve got some money, give me some money.” Within a few days, something happened to her that had never happened in all of her life. A prominent member of the community asked her to help him with a very lucrative project. For her service and help, she received the sum of $10,000. She had never received that much money at one time before. The Lord blessed her with that sum.
Here are your five simple prayers for this month:
1. “Lord, give me a money-making idea. Thank you”
2. “Lord, give me the courage to create that money-making idea. Thank you”
3. “Lord, give me money. Thank you”
4. “Lord, give me good health. Thank you.”
5. “Lord, give me love. Thank you.”
Now go forth this month believing and receiving!
Personal Definitions and Declarations
- Whose definition have you accepted?
- What are you saying about yourself?
- Make a list of how you describe yourself to others.
Pay close attention to the things you hear yourself saying about you
and to you throughout your day—it will be shocking what you hear.
Note: Please pay particular attention to your self-talk—you know those conversations you
have with yourself. Ask yourself, “Who do you say that I am?”
Science of Living Study Guide
Please read Chapter 2. As additional self interrogation please answer the questions at the end of this chapter. BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF.
We recommend you recite the positive affirmations in this lesson and in this chapter at the beginning of your day, at the end of your day, and at any point during your day.
