The Science of Living Study Lesson

Chapter 7
LOVERS ARE WINNERS

He that loves not knows not God; for God is love.  1 John 4:8

By: Dr. Frederick Eikerenkoetter in the Science of Living Study Guide, CHAPTER 7

A SCIENCE OF LIVING PRINCIPLE

God is love.  The presence of God-in-you is love.  You must know this before you truly understand love and how to love.

Quote: “When it comes to love, I am the starting point of love. I cannot love others correctly until I, first of all, learn to love myself correctly.”—Rev. Ike

Quote: “Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end]…”— 1 Corinthians 13:8 (AMP)

Quote: The blessing of the Lord--it makes [truly] rich, and He adds no sorrow with it [neither does toiling increase it].— Proverbs 10:22

Quote: …for God loves a cheerful giver. –2 Corinthians 9:7

Remember, this journey of self-discovery consists of building blocks. Each month we give you a new technique to add to the previous months’ blocks. You will get out according to what you invest in working with this material.  We encourage you to continue working with the earlier techniques as you add each new one.  Don’t forget to access the monthly teachings of Dr. Tony Mitchell so that you may incorporate the Mind Science technology he offers to assist you in working through these lessons. Rev. Ike highly recommends Dr. Mitchell’s techniques.

As always, we would l-o-v-e to hear from you about what you are discovering about you by asking yourself these questions and by answering the Science of Living Study Guide topic questions. Please give us time to respond to you; we do answer your questions but it may take a minute.

Our next stop along our Self-Discovery journey with Rev. Ike is his teaching, “Lovers Are Winners,” found in Chapter 7 of his Science of Living Study Guide.

In addition to working with Chapter 7 of Rev. Ike’s Science of Living Study Guide we would like to offer you a second message from Rev. Ike entitled, Be Good to YOU.

Now, here is the August message from Rev. Ike.

BE GOOD TO YOU

In many people there is a deep subconscious quilt complex; these people don’t feel that they deserve God’s Goodness.  And I have noticed that people who harbor these subconscious quilt complexes attract abusive people and harsh situations into their lives that produce the punishment they subconsciously believe they deserve.

My questions to you are, ‘Are you mean to yourself mentally? Do you make fun of yourself or constantly second-guess your skill and ability?’

When you put yourself down mentally, people and events will conspire to stomp all over you. The only value a person has is his own self-esteem.

Affirmation #1

The only value I have as a person is the value I give myself. I feel good about me

What you think about yourself is the only money in your marketplace of life, and if you think that you deserve goodness you draw goodness to you. If you don’t think you deserve goodness, you don’t draw goodness you draw unpleasantness.

Now that I have laid this groundwork I will move on to this month’s topic, Be Good to You. Here are my seven steps for being good to you.

#1 THINK good thoughts about your self
What do you think about yourself? I’m not asking you, ‘What do you think about God’ or ‘what do you think about Jesus?’ or ‘what do you think about Rev. Ike?’ My question to you is, “What do you think about you?”  The only value a person has is his own self-esteem.  What he thinks about himself, what he believes about himself, what he feels about himself. That’s the only value that you have.

#2 FEEL good about your self
When you go for that job interview, subconsciously the interviewer picks up how you feel about yourself.  He may not understand it intellectually, but he’ll feel it and he won’t hire you.  In this world people can put you through a lot of unnecessary changes if they want to, but if you feel right about yourself and you go through life feeling good and believing good about yourself, people will treat you good.  Think good thoughts about yourself. The Bible says, “As a man thinks, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7) It really means as a man thinks of himself, so is he.  If you think that you’re no good, you’ll never be any good.  I’m reminded of my experience growing up as a little boy in South Carolina, working in a greasy automobile repair shop, without shoes, sometimes without a shirt.  Every once in a while the white head mechanic would look down at me and say to me, “Boy, do you think you’ll ever amount to anything?”  I’ve been thinking about that.  I used to think he was trying to put me down; maybe he wasn’t trying to put me down. Maybe he saw something good in me that he was trying to draw out of me.  You know, in life it’s not what’s done to you but how you perceive what is done.

I could have taken that as an insult. But somehow deep down inside of me responded to his question, “Boy, do you think you’ll ever amount to anything?” because it touched something in me. I remember straightening up and immediately squaring my shoulders and looking him in the face and saying, “Yes, sir.”  And this is what you have to say to life. You have to say YES to life. You have to say YES to your greater possibilities. Say YES to health. Say YES to happiness. YES to love. YES to success. YES to prosperity. YES to money.

As a man thinks of himself, so is he. Jesus said it another way, “According to your faith so be it unto you” (Matthew 9:29).  And your faith is not what you believe about God so much, your faith is what you believe about yourself. Every concept is in some way a self-concept.  “According to your faith so be it unto you.” According to your self-image, so be it unto you. According to your self-esteem, so be it unto you. The reason people don’t strive to be better, do better and have better is because they don’t believe that they can. Everything starts with a belief.  How else shall you be good to yourself? Be good to yourself by feeling good about yourself.

Affirmation # 2

I have a healthy feeling about myself. I have a happy feeling about myself.

#3 KNOW that you deserve to have the best
Another way you are to be good about yourself is to know that you deserve the best.

Affirmation # 3

I deserve the best! I do all the things necessary to be the best person I can be!

Why should you pass the high-end car showroom and think that those cars were manufactured for somebody else? Why should you pass Saks Fifth Avenue and Neman Marcus and Versace and just stay on the outside looking in—
thinking that those wonderful clothes are for someone else?  When you think of all the wonderful, beautiful cars being made in America, in Germany, in England, in Japan, all over the earth, you ought to realize all of those wonderful things are being made for you.  If you’re going to pass fashionable shops sometime today, you look in the window and say to yourself and say to those things, “All of these wonderful things are being made for me.”  If you want to live in a better neighborhood, in a better house, walk around or ride around the neighborhood that you’d like to live in, without being a nuisance.

Affirmation # 4

Beautiful things are being made for my enjoyment.

Know that you deserve the best and say, “I deserve the best.”  However, do not covet possessions that belong to other people. Admire them and then create a plan to acquire these things for yourself through visualization, faith, and activities. Some of the things I tell you may seem far out, but some people believe those things and practice them.

#4 ADVANCE and ENRICH yourself by faith with actions because you believe you deserve the good you desire.
I told a man in the audience at a meeting in Atlanta, who wanted a new home to do this very thing. He didn’t have any money for a house, he had been a businessman, in and out of one kind of business and another, just failing, but he left that meeting and went way out into the suburbs and saw a house for sale that he wanted, and walked around and blessed it and said, “That is for me.” He took his 14-year old son with him, and when they walked back out in the yard, he took the For Sale sign down.  His son looked at him and said, “Daddy, are you going to buy this house?” He said, “Son, I’ve already bought this house.” He had bought it in his mind. That’s where everything happens first – in your mind.  If you want something, the first place you get it is IN YOUR MIND.

His son looked around and saw not just a house, but horse stalls and barns. He said, “Daddy, can I have a horse?” He said, “Yes, son, I’ll buy you a horse. This is our 17-acre farm.”  And if you don’t understand what he was doing, you’d think he was talking crazy because he didn’t have the cash.  However, the Bible say, “God has taken foolish things to puzzle the wise” (1 Corinthians 1:27).  That’s what puzzles people about this ministry, my philosophy, and how I teach people to get things in the mind, because the mind is where everything begins.

The man was able to get that house; he started his own limousine service, and had five brand new Cadillac limousines dumped into his lap, just like that.  Big transportation contracts have been just dumped in his lap since then.  And you know what happened even down to that boy’s horse? After they moved into the house, a neighbor from down the road at another farm came by to look around and he said, “ My God, I see all of these barns and stalls for horses you have here. You know, I got a lot of horses over at my place. Can I bring some of them over here?” The father said, “Oh, yes. Bring those horses right on over here.”

What you see is what you get. But you must see it in your mind. The man brought the horses over there and the horses started having babies. So not only did he bring the horses, but the horses had horses.

Believe that you deserve the best. Advance yourself and in advancing yourself, you will advance others. No man ever truly advanced himself without advancing others.

Another man I know chose to advance himself. He and his wife quit their jobs and opened their own business. The business became successful beyond their wildest imagination. They were able to pay off their home, build investments and purchase their dream cars.  They advanced themselves. Enrich yourself - and no man ever truly enriched himself without enriching others.  Henry Ford became a billionaire, but in becoming a billionaire he created millions of jobs all over the world. He revolutionized manufacturing; he started the assembly line concept of manufacturing and all of the related jobs to the automobile industry today. You are a blessing to others when you create jobs for people all over the world.

#5 ENJOY yourself, your family, and your friends
Do good things for you and your family and friends.  And always include time to enjoy yourself—do not ever feel guilty about enjoying yourself.  Learn to reward yourself. After you have worked diligently all week, you must make it your business to find some enjoyable activities to engage in on the weekend.  And don’t just wait until the weekend; build into your week certain midweek treats—even if it’s just giving yourself an extra non-caloric soda.  Be good to yourself. Go to the cosmetic counter and say, “Self, I want you to smell good; I’m going to buy you a bottle of this new cologne everybody is talking about.” I dare you to use this stuff and your self will appreciate this esteem.  Treat yourself to lunch or dinner. Treat yourself to a show.

#6 ENCOURAGE yourself
Encourage yourself; root for yourself. Don’t you ever walk out of your house unless you dress yourself the best you can.  Look in the mirror and say, “Self, you look great. Now self, you go out there and be good, do good, and create great things.” Go out every day to face the world looking good, feeling good and smelling good. Root for yourself. Be your own cheerleader. If you learn how to cheer yourself on, other people will come along and cheer for you too.

#7 FORGIVE yourself
Last but not least, forgive yourself.  I cannot tell you how many psychological and psychosomatic disorders stem from people not forgiving themselves. Living with a load of guilt and it happens to the rich and the so-called poor. God has nothing against you. You have to be sure which God you’re serving. Some are serving that old, angry God. Well, I’m not serving him!

Forgive yourself. Hold nothing against yourself, not even your sins and mistakes. If you made a mistake, don’t try to cover it up, and for goodness sake don’t wallow in it.

Affirmation #5

Yes, I made a mistake but it was only a miscalculation. I have made the corrections and I am back on course.

When you ‘sin’ you merely miss the mark, the purpose God is intending. And here again is the true meaning of the word, sin. Sin translated in the New Testament from the original Greek word Hamatia means to miss the mark.  To sin is the miss the mark, to miss the good that God has for you. To miss the success that God intends for you. To miss the prosperity that God has for you. That’s sin. To miss the money that God has for you. That’s sin. To miss the goodness of God, that’s sin. It’s a sin to be broke and you know it.

Do not carry guilt. Forgive yourself and God forgives you and turns from your sin, repent as the Bible says and here again “repent” means to think again.  Instead of thinking poverty, start thinking prosperity. Instead of thinking sickness, think health. Instead of thinking the blues, instead of thinking depressive thoughts, think again. Think happiness, think love, think joy.

AFFIRMATIONS FOR AUGUST

Use the Power of your spoken word to say these Affirmations for yourself at least twice every day throughout this month of August:

I’m going to be good to myself.

I can’t expect other people to be better to me than I am to myself.

I believe in myself.

I believe in the God-in-me.

I believe in God; therefore, I believe in myself.

I respect myself.

I have faith in myself.

I feel good about myself. I feel healthy and happy about myself.

I feel successful and prosperous about myself.

I deserve the best.

I deserve God’s best.

I advance myself; thereby I glorify God and advance others.

My success glorifies God and uplifts humanity.

My prosperity glorifies God and uplifts mankind.

I enjoy myself without guilt. I have a good time.

I laugh. I play. I enjoy God. I enjoy myself. I enjoy life.

The joy of the Lord is my strength.

I forgive myself. I wipe my slate clean.  I wipe my slate clean of every mistake, of every stupid action, of every sin.

I will not wallow in my mistakes.

I will not be fascinated with sin, mine or anybody else’s.

I’m not interested in missing God’s mark.

I’m free to prosper, to love and be loved, to enjoy.

Thank you God-in-me.

Now go forth into August feeling good about you, believing good for you, receiving good from you, and creating all the good you desire to have in your experience! –Rev. Ike

BE GOOD TO YOU BY GETTING INTO THE BUSINESS OF GIVING
At this time, I would like to ask you to prepare a love offering to this Ministry if this teaching has blessed you in any way. I want you to use the Power of your spoken words to say these
Affirmations aloud:

I willing an obedient therefore I am living on easy street.

I give this offering in love because my Creator is Love.

I give it in joy because God loves a cheerful giver!

I give my offering expecting to receive it back to me multiplied!

I believe that what I give comes back to me multiplied because giving is God’s universal Law. (Genesis 8:22)

Money, Good Health, Love, Joy, Peace, and Wisdom, you are welcome in my life.

I give in order to receive, that’s God’s Law!

Luke 6:38 (AMP)
38Give, and [gifts] will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will they pour into [the pouch formed by] the bosom [of your robe and used as a bag]. For with the measure you deal out [with the measure you use when you confer benefits on others], it will be measured back to you.
